BM Canteen – Canteen Management System
BM Canteen is a full-stack canteen management and online food ordering system that enables parents and POS counters to place and manage orders, while providing administrators with tools for user, menu, and order management.
Overview
BM Canteen is a full-stack canteen management and online food ordering system developed using React.js, Node.js, Express.js, PostgreSQL, and Tailwind CSS. The system was designed to streamline food ordering and canteen operations for parents, POS counters, and administrators. Implemented RESTful APIs for user, menu, and order management, ensuring efficient communication between the frontend and backend. Developed JWT-based authentication and role-based access control (RBAC) to secure application access and protect user data. Built responsive and user-friendly interfaces using React.js and Tailwind CSS, allowing parents and POS counters to place, manage, and track food orders efficiently. Developed administrative functionalities for user management, menu management, order handling, and operational monitoring. Integrated Axios for API communication and structured the application to support scalable business workflows and efficient data management.
The problem
The existing canteen ordering process required manual coordination between parents, POS counters, and canteen staff, making order management, tracking, and daily operations difficult to manage efficiently.
The solution
Developed a centralized web-based canteen management system that digitizes food ordering and operational workflows, allowing parents and POS counters to place and manage orders while administrators control users, menus, and order operations from a single platform.

Challenges
The key challenges included designing a smooth ordering workflow for multiple user roles, managing permissions across Parents, POS users, and Administrators, and maintaining seamless communication between the React frontend and Node.js backend. The project also required designing reliable APIs for users, menus, and orders, ensuring database consistency, building a responsive and user-friendly interface across devices, and implementing secure authentication and user data protection.
